Building dedication of the Joe and Mary Wilson Community Resource Center at the Fredericksburg SPCA

We are excited to announce the takeover of the old S&K building in front of the SPCA. The land and building were graciously donated to us by Joe & Mary Wilson and will be known as the Joe & Mary Wilson Community Resource Center.  With this expanded space, the SPCA’s growing programs can better meet the needs of the community. The current residence of the Fredericksburg SPCA which opened in 2009 at 10819 Courthouse Rd was also donated by Mr. and Mrs. Wilson.

“The Wilson family’s philanthropy to the Fredericksburg SPCA spans decades,” says Carrie Withers, Executive Director at the Fredericksburg SPCA. “This new space will enable us to broaden our impact on all those who need us whether they be canine, feline, or human.”

The building dedication comes in the wake of many recent program expansion initiatives, including:

  • A 1,200 sq ft expansion of the Fred SPCA Locke Community Medical Center to increase access to affordable veterinary care and offer a wider range of services, such as diagnostic imaging and dental care;
  • Enrollment for the P.E.T.S. (People Empowered Through Support) Program tripling in 2020, to include Mobile Meal delivery, preventing hundreds of owner-surrenders;
  • Developing three program funnels within Humane Education for youth engagement to empower the next generation of animal advocates.

Several improvements are needed to suit the building to SPCA needs. Monetary and/or in-kind donations are welcome to assist with adapting the space. The SPCA is looking forward to the space being modified to house our growing community programs.
