The Fred SPCA Locke Community Medical Center is excited to reopen for limited wellness services, including exams, vaccines, preventatives, and bloodwork as well as limited surgical visits.
Please note that our clinic entrance has changed. The clinic door is located on the right side of the building (near the red dumpster) and knock on the door under the Raymond & Krystyna Locke awning to check in.
All dogs must be on a leash, and all cats must be in carriers.

SURGERY DETAILS & REQUIREMENTS
EXAM REQUIREMENT:
Pre-anesthetic exam required for all patients within 90 days prior to anesthesia.
VACCINE REQUIREMENT:
Canine
Current Rabies Vaccine (required)

Current Bordetella Vaccine (recommended)
No vaccines administered within 14 days prior to surgery. This wait period ensures the patient is adequately protected and decreases the likelihood of disease spread during hospitalization.
Feline

BLOODWORK REQUIREMENT:
All patients are required to have some level of pre-anesthetic blood work prior to anesthesia/surgery, minimally a Pre-Anesthetic Safety Check; however, Comprehensive Screening is recommended for all patients.
Under the age of 7:
Comprehensive Screening (recommended) or Essential Organ Screening. If declined, a Pre-Anesthetic Safety Check will be required.
7 years and older:
Blood work required: either Comprehensive Screening blood work (recommended) or Essential Organ Screening.
Dogs 7 months of age and over: Heartworm test done within the last 12 months. Active heartworm disease significantly increases the risk of anesthetic complications.
DESCRIPTION OF BLOODWORK PANELS:
Pre-Anesthetic Comprehensive Screening bloodwork (recommended) Screens your pet’s vital organs (kidney and liver) to ensure they are filtering waste properly, checks blood sugar, and looks at protein levels. It includes an advanced marker (SDMA) to catch early-stage kidney changes. This panel also includes a Complete Blood Count (CBC), which analyzes their red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. This helps us instantly detect hidden signs of blood loss, active infections, inflammation, or bleeding disorders.
Pre- Anesthetic Essential Organ Screening bloodwork Screens your pet’s vital organs (kidney and liver) to ensure they are filtering waste properly, checks blood sugar, and assesses their protein levels. It includes an advanced marker (SDMA) to catch early-stage kidney changes.
Pre-Anesthetic Safety Check (Brief kidney screen/red blood cell check) It measures only blood urea nitrogen (a waste product the kidneys are supposed to filter out), which also helps ensure good hydration prior to the procedure. Plus their red blood cells to ensure your pet’s body can safely transport oxygen and that they have not experienced any recent blood loss.

An annual physical exam is required for every patient. However, boosters, blood work and some other services can be done without an exam fee by a technician, as long as the patient has been seen by a Fred SPCA Locke Community Medical Center Veterinarian within the last 12 months.

Level pricing is dictated by the amount of time required to perform the services and/or number of extractions that may be required to address diseased teeth following evaluation and/or X-ray assessment. We will do our best to estimate what level your pet requires at the preanesthetic examination but it may differ once a more thorough examination is done under anesthesia at the time of the dental procedure.
Level 1 treatment and oral surgery= base price + $250
Level 2 treatment and oral surgery= base price +$300
Level 3 treatment and oral surgery= base price + $450
ADDITIONAL CHARGES:
Brachycephalic breed: $50 (French bulldogs, English bulldogs, pugs, Boston terriers, Boxers, Shih Tzus, Lhasa Apsos, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Pekingese, or any mix with a “flat-face”)
This charge covers the cost of additional medications given to reduce secretions and additional oxygenation cost to ensure the health and safety of these breeds who are at higher risk of anesthetic complications due to their facial features and small airways.
In-heat charge: $75
If a female is in her heat cycle during the time of surgery, there will be an additional charge to cover the extra surgical time and supplies needed to decrease bleeding risk. We recommend waiting 4-6 weeks following the end of all heat signs at a minimum.
24-hour anti-nausea injection (Maropitant) always recommended: $40
This is a one-time injection that helps with anesthesia-related nausea, may help with appetite following surgery, and can also help with visceral pain control related to surgery.
E-collar: $10
Post-operative Elizabethan collar (cone) to prevent patient from licking/chewing incision area. Highly encouraged for all dog surgeries, to be worn anytime your pet is not directly supervised.
