August came in hot—both with the weather and with adoptions. Things kicked off with Kashmira’s Kindness on 8/2, an adoption event honoring Kashmira, a beloved pup who’s legacy lives on in others. Kashmira herself was adopted from the Fredericksburg SPCA, and to celebrate her life and legacy, her family sponsored adoptions for the entire day. Eight animals went home that day, their adoption fees fully covered by love (and Kashmira’s memory).  We’re endlessly grateful to Kashmira’s family for honoring her in such a beautiful way.

That momentum didn’t stop. By month’s end, 116 cats and kittens had traded shelter condos for prime windowsill real estate, while 24 dogs were busy parading into their new homes like it was their personal halftime show. If you do the math, that’s a lot of litter boxes being assembled and a lot of squeaky toys being de-squeaked and de-fluffed. To us, it sounds like a rocking good time.

As summer winds down, we’re looking forward to September: cooler weather, crunchy leaves, and more animals going home where they belong. August may have been for kindness and cats flying out the door faster than treats at snack time, but September is already shaping up to be just as sweet — maybe even sweeter!
